Description

ACULAR LS Drops is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is formulated specifically for ocular (eye) use. The active ingredient in these eye drops is Ketorolac tromethamine, a potent anti-inflammatory agent that works by inhibiting the enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, which are involved in the production of prostaglandins—substances in the body that mediate pain, swelling, and inflammation.

ACULAR LS is commonly prescribed to treat various ocular inflammatory conditions, particularly post-surgical inflammation after cataract surgery or refractive surgery, and allergic conjunctivitis (commonly known as eye allergies). It helps reduce symptoms such as redness, swelling, and discomfort in the eyes.

By blocking these enzymes, Ketorolac reduces the production of prostaglandins in the eye, leading to a decrease in inflammation, redness, and pain.

Unlike steroid-based eye drops, ACULAR LS does not carry the same risk of increased eye pressure, cataracts, or other systemic side effects that can occur with long-term steroid use.

Indications:

• Post-surgical inflammation: Used after cataract surgery or other eye surgeries to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

• Allergic conjunctivitis: Used to treat the symptoms of eye allergies, such as itching, redness, and swelling.

• Eye injuries: Can also be used to treat mild eye injuries that result in inflammation or discomfort.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: The usual dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 4 times a day. The drops are typically started 24 hours after surgery (if post-surgical) or as needed for allergy symptoms.

• Pediatric use: The safety and effectiveness of ACULAR LS in children under 2 years have not been established, so it’s important to consult a healthcare provider before use in younger children.
