Description

Alsita M 50 Tablet is an antidiabetic medication that combines two active ingredients: Sitagliptin (50 mg) and Metformin (500 mg). Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases insulin production in response to meals and reduces glucose production by the liver. Metformin, a biguanide, enhances insulin sensitivity, decreases hepatic glucose output, and slows intestinal glucose absorption. Together, these actions help lower blood glucose levels and reduce the risk of complications associated with type 2 diabetes, such as kidney damage, nerve issues, and cardiovascular events.

This medication is typically prescribed when blood sugar levels are inadequately controlled with Metformin alone. It is not suitable for individuals with type 1 diabetes or those with severe kidney or liver disease. Patients should not take this medication if they have diabetic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis, or are undergoing radiological studies involving iodinated contrast agents.

Dosage and Administration:

• Take the tablet whole with food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

• Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.

• Follow the dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor; do not adjust the dose without medical advice.

• Regular monitoring of blood glucose and kidney function is recommended during treatment.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain

• Headache, dizziness

• Upper respiratory tract infections

• Hypoglycemia (especially when combined with other antidiabetic medications)

• Potential long-term effects include vitamin B12 deficiency and, rarely, lactic acidosis.

• Avoid alcohol consumption, as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
