Description

Atocor 5 mg Tablet contains Atorvastatin, a statin medication used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. At the 5 mg strength, it is typically prescribed for:

• Mild hypercholesterolemia (mildly elevated LDL cholesterol)

• Initial therapy in patients who require modest LDL-C reduction

• Primary prevention of cardiovascular events in lower-risk individuals

• Dose adjustment for elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment

Atorvastatin works by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, a key player in the liver’s cholesterol production pathway. This leads to a reduction in LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, a modest increase in HDL (“good”) cholesterol, and a decrease in triglycerides, thereby reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis.

The 5 mg dose is a low-intensity statin therapy, suitable for patients who are sensitive to statins or who require only a small reduction in cholesterol levels. It is taken once daily, with or without food, and often combined with lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and weight management.
