Description

Atocor Gold 10 mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination medication containing two active ingredients:

• Atorvastatin 10 mg – a statin that works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, leading to a decrease in LDL cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”) and triglycerides, while slightly increasing HDL cholesterol (“good cholesterol”).

• Ezetimibe 10 mg – a cholesterol absorption inhibitor that works in the intestine by blocking the absorption of cholesterol from the food we eat, further reducing the amount of cholesterol in the bloodstream.

This combination is used to treat hyperlipidemia (elevated cholesterol) and mixed dyslipidemia, particularly in patients who have not responded adequately to statin therapy alone or those who cannot tolerate higher doses of statins. The medication is typically used for:

• Primary hypercholesterolemia (high LDL levels)

• Mixed dyslipidemia (elevated cholesterol and triglycerides)

• Prevention of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke in patients at high risk

Atocor Gold 10 mg provides a synergistic effect by targeting cholesterol from both the liver (via atorvastatin) and the intestines (via ezetimibe), achieving greater reductions in LDL cholesterol.
