Description

Mechanism of Action:
Bisoprolol works by blocking β₁-adrenergic receptors in the heart, leading to a decrease in heart rate and myocardial contractility. This results in reduced oxygen demand and improved cardiac efficiency.

Primary Uses:

• Hypertension: Lowers blood pressure, reducing the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems.

• Heart Failure: Improves heart function and reduces symptoms in patients with chronic heart failure.

• Angina: Relieves chest pain by improving blood flow to the heart muscle.

• Arrhythmias: Helps in stabilizing abnormal heart rhythms, particularly atrial fibrillation.

Dosage & Administration:

• Recommended Dose: Typically, 2.5 mg once daily, preferably in the morning.

• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water; do not chew or crush.

• With or Without Food: Can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects:

• Common: Fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, cold extremities.

• Serious: Bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypotension (low blood pressure), heart block, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia (in diabetic patients).

Precautions:

• Contraindications: Not recommended for patients with severe bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree, cardiogenic shock, or overt heart failure.

• Caution: Use with caution in patients with diabetes, asthma, liver or kidney impairment, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Discontinuation: Do not abruptly stop taking Bisolong; tapering under medical supervision is advised to avoid exacerbation of angina or arrhythmias.

Drug Interactions:

• Antihypertensives: Concurrent use with other blood pressure-lowering agents may enhance hypotensive effects.

• Antiarrhythmics: Combined use with other antiarrhythmic drugs may increase the risk of bradycardia and heart block.

• Insulin and Oral Hypoglycemics: Bisoprolol may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia; monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Storage Recommendations:

• Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

• Packaging: Keep out of reach of children.
