Description

Brillo 180mg Tablet is a prescription medication manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. It contains Bempedoic Acid, which works by inhibiting the enzyme ATP citrate lyase in the liver, leading to reduced production of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly referred to as “bad” cholesterol.

Indications:

• Primary Hypercholesterolemia:

  • As an adjunct to diet and maximally tolerated statin therapy in adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) requiring additional lowering of LDL cholesterol.

• Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia:

  • In combination with other lipid-lowering treatments.

Mechanism of Action:

Bempedoic Acid inhibits the enzyme ATP citrate lyase in the liver, which is involved in the synthesis of cholesterol. By reducing cholesterol production, it lowers LDL cholesterol levels in the blood.

Dosage and Administration:

• Recommended Dose:

  • One 180mg tablet taken orally once daily.

• Administration:

  • May be taken with or without food.

  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or split.

• Combination Therapy:

  • Often used in conjunction with other cholesterol-lowering medications, such as statins.

Precautions:

• Pregnancy:

  • Not recommended during pregnancy.

• Breastfeeding:

  • Not recommended during breastfeeding.

• Liver Function:

  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.

• Kidney Function:

  • No dose adjustment necessary in mild to moderate renal impairment.
