AUGMENTIN ES SYP

Description

Augmentin ES (Extended Spectrum) Syrup is a high-dose formulation of the well-known combination of:

• Amoxicillin (600 mg per 5 ml) – a penicillin-class antibiotic that destroys bacteria by disrupting their cell wall synthesis.

• Clavulanic Acid (42.9 mg per 5 ml) – a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent bacterial resistance to amoxicillin.

This extended-strength formulation is specifically designed for children with more serious or recurrent infections, offering better coverage against resistant bacterial strains.

Indications (Uses):

Augmentin ES is commonly prescribed to children for:

• Acute otitis media (middle ear infections), especially with recurrent history

• Sinusitis

• Community-acquired pneumonia

• Tonsillitis and pharyngitis

• Other resistant respiratory or soft tissue infections

Dosage & Administration:

• Route: Oral suspension

• Dosage: Determined by body weight (typically 90 mg/kg/day of Amoxicillin, divided every 12 hours)

• Instructions:

  • Shake well before each use

  • Administer with a calibrated spoon/syringe

  • Take with food to improve absorption and minimize gastrointestinal upset

  • Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve earlier

Precautions:

• Not suitable for children with penicillin or cephalosporin allergies

• Use cautiously in children with hepatic or renal impairment

• Inform your pediatrician of any other medications being taken

Possible Side Effects:

• Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash

• Rare: Liver function changes, allergic reactions (hives, anaphylaxis), oral thrush
