Composition:

• Dextrose (25% w/v)​

Mechanism of Action:

Indications:

• Short-term fluid and calorie replacement in patients who cannot take oral nutrition.

• Management of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in certain clinical settings.

• As a diluent for intravenous medications.​

Dosage:

• The dosage and rate of administration are determined by a healthcare professional based on the patient’s clinical condition, age, weight, and response to therapy.​

Side Effects:

• Common: Injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, or redness.

• Less common: Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), electrolyte imbalances.

• Serious: Fluid overload, especially in patients with kidney or heart conditions.​

Precautions:
