Description

💉 Composition

  • Active Ingredient: Tetanus Toxoid (0.5 ml)

  • Preservative: Thiomersal

  • Formulation: Sterile suspension of aluminium phosphate adsorbed tetanus toxoid in isotonic sodium chloride solution

🩺 Indications

  • Primary Immunization: For infants and children as per the national immunization schedule.

  • Booster Doses: Administered every 10 years to maintain immunity.

  • Post-Exposure Prophylaxis: Following injuries or wounds that may be contaminated with Clostridium tetani.

💊 Dosage and Administration

  • Route: Intramuscular (IM) injection.

  • Dosage: 0.5 ml per dose.

  • Frequency: As per the immunization schedule or doctor’s recommendation.

⚠️ Side Effects

Common Local Reactions:

  • Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site.

  • Warmth or induration.

  • Urticaria or rash.

Systemic Reactions:

  • Fever.

  • Malaise or fatigue.

  • Nausea.

  • Arthralgia (joint pain).

  • Hypotension.

Rare Reactions:

  • Arthus-type hypersensitivity reactions (severe local reactions occurring 2–8 hours post-injection), especially in individuals with multiple prior booster doses.

  • Neurological events such as Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), encephalopathy, or nerve palsies.
