Description

Akurit 4 Tablet is a prescription medication indicated for the initial intensive phase treatment of active tuberculosis (TB). It combines four first-line anti-TB agents:

  • Rifampicin (150 mg) – Bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis.

  • Isoniazid (75 mg) – Kills actively growing TB bacteria and prevents their multiplication.

  • Pyrazinamide (400 mg) – Effective against dormant TB bacteria in acidic environments like within macrophages.

  • Ethambutol (275 mg) – Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, reducing bacterial resistance development.

Together, these drugs form a potent combination to eliminate TB bacteria rapidly and reduce the risk of drug resistance.

 Key Features and Benefits:

  • Comprehensive 4-in-1 therapy for effective TB management.

  • Reduces bacterial load quickly during the early phase.

  • Prevents resistance by combining drugs with different mechanisms.

  • Simplifies treatment regimen to improve adherence.

 Dosage and Usage:

  • Typically taken once daily on an empty stomach, or as prescribed by a physician.

  • The dosage may vary depending on body weight, disease severity, and clinical condition.

  • Adherence is critical for treatment success and to prevent multi-drug resistance.

 Precautions:

  • Regular liver function tests are recommended.

  • May cause reddish-orange discoloration of urine and tears (due to Rifampicin).

  • Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, visual disturbances, or peripheral neuropathy.

  • Avoid alcohol during treatment.

 Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, loss of appetite, mild rash, fatigue

  • Serious: Liver toxicity, peripheral neuropathy, vision problems, hypersensitivity reactions
