Description

Composition:

• Alfuzosin (10 mg): An alpha-1 adrenergic antagonist that relaxes the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, facilitating easier urine passage.

• Dutasteride (0.5 mg): A 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that decreases the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone responsible for prostate growth, thereby reducing the size of the prostate.

Indications:

Alfusin D Tablet is prescribed for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a condition characterized by an enlarged prostate gland that leads to urinary difficulties such as increased frequency, urgency, and weak urine stream.

Mechanism of Action:

The combination of Alfuzosin and Dutasteride works synergistically to:

• Relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck (via Alfuzosin), improving urine flow.

• Reduce the size of the prostate (via Dutasteride), alleviating pressure on the urethra and enhancing urinary function.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage: Typically, one tablet daily, preferably after the same meal each day.

• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, breast tenderness, and reduced semen volume. These effects are generally mild and may subside with continued use. Consult a healthcare provider if side effects persist or worsen.

Precautions:

• Not recommended for use in women or children.

• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disorders; dose adjustments may be necessary.

• Avoid alcohol consumption, as it may exacerbate side effects such as dizziness.
