Description

Composition:

• Amlodipine: A calcium channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and preventing chest pain (angina).

• Telmisartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks a hormone responsible for tightening blood vessels. This helps reduce blood pressure and provides additional protection for the heart.

Mechanism of Action:

• Amlodipine blocks the entry of calcium into the smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels and the heart. This relaxes the blood vessels, reducing the pressure against which the heart must pump, and improving blood flow.

• Telmisartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to constrict. By inhibiting this action, it helps widen the vessels, further lowering blood pressure.

Uses:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): The combination of Amlodipine and Telmisartan is particularly effective for patients with high blood pressure, helping to lower it and reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

• Angina Pectoris (Chest Pain): It helps relieve chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart by improving circulation.

Dosage and Administration:

• AMLODAC AT Tablets are usually taken once daily.

• You can take the tablet with or without food.

• The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

• Your doctor will adjust the dosage based on your medical condition. The usual starting dose is Amlodipine 5 mg and Telmisartan 40 mg.

• Follow your doctor’s instructions for the correct dosage.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Headache

• Dizziness

• Fatigue

• Swelling of the ankles or feet

• Nausea

• Cough (less common)

Serious side effects may include:

• Severe dizziness or fainting

• Chest pain (if it worsens)

• Rapid or irregular heartbeat

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)

If any severe side effects occur, seek medical help immediately.

Precautions:

• Kidney or Liver Problems: If you have kidney or liver issues, you may need a lower dose or close monitoring.

• Pregnancy: This medication is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can harm the fetus.

• Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding, as the drug may pass into breast milk.

• Drug Interactions: AMLODAC AT Tablets may interact with other medications, such as other blood pressure-lowering drugs, diuretics, or certain heart medications. Make sure to inform your doctor of all the medications you’re taking.
