Description

Composition:

• Active Ingredient: Nepafenac 0.1% w/v

• Preservative: Oxychloro Complex 0.01% w/v

Mechanism of Action:

Nepafenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that, once instilled into the eye, is converted into its active form. It inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, leading to a decrease in the production of prostaglandins responsible for inflammation and pain.

Common Indications:

• Relief of eye pain and inflammation following cataract surgery.

• Reduction of the risk of macular edema after cataract surgery in diabetic patients.

Dosage and Administration:

• Standard Dosage: One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, starting 1 day before cataract surgery and continuing through the first 2 weeks of the postoperative period.

• Administration Tips:

  • Wash hands thoroughly before use.

  • Shake the bottle gently before instillation.

  • Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket.

  • Instill the prescribed number of drops into the pocket without touching the dropper tip to the eye or surrounding areas to avoid contamination.

  • Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes after instillation.

  • If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Blurred vision

• Eye discomfort or irritation

• Itching or redness of the eyes

Serious side effects are rare but may include:

• Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing)

• Eye infections

• Corneal issues such as thinning or perforation.

If any serious side effects occur, seek immediate medical attention.

Precautions:

• Allergy: Avoid use if allergic to nepafenac or other NSAIDs.

• Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester, due to potential risks to the fetus.

• Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use, as it is unknown whether nepafenac passes into breast milk.

• Contact Lenses: Remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

• Other Medications: Inform your doctor if you are using other eye medications, blood thinners, or corticosteroids.
