Mechanism of Action:
Apigat 2.5 mg Tablet works by selectively inhibiting Factor Xa, an enzyme crucial for blood clot formation. By blocking this enzyme, apixaban reduces the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, thereby decreasing the formation of fibrin and preventing clot development.

Indications:

• Atrial Fibrillation: To reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.

• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

• Pulmonary Embolism (PE): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

• Post-Surgical Use: To prevent DVT following hip or knee replacement surgery.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical Dosage: 2.5 mg taken orally twice daily.

• Administration: Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break.

• Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, unless it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Side Effects:
Common side effects include:

• Bleeding (e.g., nosebleeds, gum bleeding, blood in urine or stools)

• Bruising

• Nausea

• Anemia (low red blood cell count)

Serious side effects may include:

• Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat)

• Sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body
