Description

Composition: Each tablet contains 5 mg of apixaban.

Mechanism of Action: Apixaban selectively inhibits Factor Xa, disrupting the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, thereby reducing thrombus formation.

Indications:

• Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: To reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.

• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

• Pulmonary Embolism (PE): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

• Post-Surgical Use: To prevent DVT following hip or knee replacement surgery.

Dosage:

• Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: 5 mg orally twice daily.

• DVT/PE Treatment: 10 mg orally twice daily for the first 7 days, followed by 5 mg twice daily.

• DVT/PE Prevention: 2.5 mg orally twice daily after initial treatment.

Administration: Take with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or split.

Side Effects:

• Common: Nausea, anemia, bruising, swelling.

• Serious: Unusual bleeding, including nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or blood in urine or stools.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with active bleeding disorders or severe liver impairment.

• Use with caution in elderly patients, those with renal or hepatic impairment, and those undergoing spinal procedures.

• Regular monitoring of renal and hepatic function is recommended.
