Apigat 5 mg Tablet is an anticoagulant that inhibits Factor Xa, a key enzyme in the blood clotting process. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, and to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
Description
Composition: Each tablet contains 5 mg of apixaban.
Mechanism of Action: Apixaban selectively inhibits Factor Xa, disrupting the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, thereby reducing thrombus formation.
Indications:

Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: To reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

Pulmonary Embolism (PE): For treatment and prevention of recurrence.

Post-Surgical Use: To prevent DVT following hip or knee replacement surgery.
Dosage:

Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: 5 mg orally twice daily.

DVT/PE Treatment: 10 mg orally twice daily for the first 7 days, followed by 5 mg twice daily.

DVT/PE Prevention: 2.5 mg orally twice daily after initial treatment.
Administration: Take with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or split.
Side Effects:

Common: Nausea, anemia, bruising, swelling.

Serious: Unusual bleeding, including nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or blood in urine or stools.
Precautions:

Contraindicated in patients with active bleeding disorders or severe liver impairment.

Use with caution in elderly patients, those with renal or hepatic impairment, and those undergoing spinal procedures.

Regular monitoring of renal and hepatic function is recommended.
