ARICEP – 10 – TAB

Description

Aricep is primarily prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of dementia associated with Alzheimer’s disease. It does not cure Alzheimer’s but may help in improving cognitive function and slowing disease progression.

Mechanism of Action:
Donepezil, the active ingredient in Aricep, is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine—a neurotransmitter involved in memory and learning. By preventing acetylcholine breakdown, Aricep increases its availability in the brain, enhancing communication between nerve cells.

Dosage and Administration:

• Recommended Dose: Typically, 10 mg once daily, preferably taken at bedtime.

• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not double doses.

Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:

• Nausea and vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Muscle cramps

• Fatigue

• Headache

• Loss of appetite

• Dizziness

Precautions:

• Allergy: Do not use if allergic to donepezil or any other components of the tablet.

• Medical History: Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, liver disease, asthma, ulcers, or seizures.

• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before use; safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not established.

• Driving and Operating Machinery: May cause dizziness or fatigue; exercise caution when performing tasks requiring alertness.
