Description

Atocor 40 Tablet is a lipid-lowering medication that contains Atorvastatin 40 mg, a member of the statin class of drugs. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This leads to a reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C or “bad cholesterol”), an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C or “good cholesterol”), and a decrease in triglycerides.

Atocor 40 is typically prescribed for:

• Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)

• Mixed dyslipidemia

• Prevention of cardiovascular events (e.g., heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients, including those with diabetes, hypertension, or existing coronary artery disease

The 40 mg dose is considered a moderate-to-high intensity statin therapy, often used when lower doses (10 or 20 mg) are insufficient to achieve lipid goals.

It should be taken once daily, with or without food, ideally at the same time each day. Regular lipid profile monitoring is recommended, and lifestyle changes such as a heart-healthy diet, exercise, and smoking cessation are typically advised alongside therapy.
