Description

Atormac TG Tablet is a dual-action lipid-lowering medication combining Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that reduces cholesterol production in the liver, leading to lower LDL and triglyceride levels. Fenofibrate, a fibrate, activates lipoprotein lipase, which breaks down triglyceride-rich particles, thus lowering triglyceride levels and increasing HDL cholesterol.

This combination therapy is typically prescribed when lifestyle changes alone are insufficient to control lipid levels. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with mixed dyslipidemia or those at high risk for cardiovascular events. The tablet should be taken once daily, preferably with food, and swallowed whole without crushing or chewing.

Common side effects may include nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, muscle pain, and elevated liver enzymes. Serious side effects, though rare, can involve muscle weakness, jaundice, or severe abdominal pain. Regular monitoring of liver function and lipid levels is recommended during treatment.

Contraindications include active liver disease, severe kidney impairment, gallbladder disease, and pregnancy. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of any other medications they are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
