Description

Azosyn 250mg Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used for the treatment of a wide range of moderate to severe bacterial infections. It contains a combination of:

• Piperacillin – an extended-spectrum penicillin antibiotic

• Tazobactam – a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the effectiveness of Piperacillin by protecting it from enzymatic degradation by resistant bacteria

Together, they work synergistically to kill a broader range of bacteria, including some resistant strains.

Indications / Uses:

• Lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia)

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Intra-abdominal infections (e.g., appendicitis, peritonitis)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Gynecological infections

• Septicemia (blood infections)

Dosage & Administration:

• Strength: Piperacillin 250 mg + Tazobactam (amount depends on formulation)

• Route: Usually administered intravenously in most clinical uses — note that Azosyn 250mg in tablet form is uncommon, and availability as an oral formulation should be confirmed

• Frequency: As prescribed, often every 6–8 hours for IV; oral use (if available) as per doctor’s direction

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve

How It Works:

• Piperacillin disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, killing bacteria

• Tazobactam inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, allowing Piperacillin to work effectively against resistant bacteria

Side Effects May Include:

• Diarrhea

• Nausea or vomiting

• Rash or allergic reaction

• Elevated liver enzymes

• Electrolyte imbalance (especially with IV use)

Precautions:

• Caution in patients with renal impairment

• Monitor for allergic reactions, especially in penicillin-sensitive individuals

• Not recommended during pregnancy unless essential

• Ensure adequate hydration during treatment
