Description

Composition:

• Glimepiride (2 mg): A sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, lowering blood glucose levels.

• Metformin Hydrochloride (1000 mg): A biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and enhances insulin sensitivity .

Indications:

• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults

• Improvement of glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient

• Reduction of the risk of diabetes-related complications .

Dosage and Administration:

• Typically taken once daily with the first main meal to minimize gastrointestinal side effects

• Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush

• Dosage is individualized based on blood glucose levels and response to treatment .

Side Effects:

• Common: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nausea, headache, dizziness, stomach discomfort, diarrhea

• Serious (rare): Lactic acidosis, vitamin B12 deficiency, liver dysfunction .

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease; dose adjustment may be necessary

• Regular monitoring of blood glucose and kidney function is recommended

• Alcohol consumption should be limited, as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor

• Not suitable for children under 18 years of age .
