BACTRIM SUSP

Description

BACTRIM Suspension is a prescription oral antibiotic syrup specifically formulated for children. It contains a combination of sulfamethoxazole (200 mg/5 mL) and trimethoprim (40 mg/5 mL) per 5 mL, providing broad-spectrum antibacterial action. This synergistic combination blocks bacterial folic acid synthesis at two sequential steps, making it highly effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Bactrim Suspension is commonly prescribed for:

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Acute otitis media (ear infections)

• Shigellosis

• Traveler’s diarrhea

• Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) (treatment and prophylaxis in immunocompromised children)

Its sweet-flavored formulation ensures better compliance in pediatric patients. The dosage is weight-based and should be determined by a healthcare provider. Regular monitoring may be required during prolonged use. It is not suitable for infants under 2 months of age.
