BRIMOLOL – DROPS
₹509.00
Brimolol Eye Drops combine Brimonidine Tartrate (0.15%) and Timolol Maleate (0.5%), two medications that work together to reduce intraocular pressure. Brimonidine decreases the production of aqueous humor, while Timolol reduces its formation, effectively lowering eye pressure. This combination is primarily used to treat ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma.
Description
Brimolol Eye Drops are manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd and are indicated for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in conditions such as ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma.
Mechanism of Action:
-
Brimonidine Tartrate (0.15%): A selective α2-adrenergic agonist that reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow, leading to lowered intraocular pressure.
-
Timolol Maleate (0.5%): A non-selective β-adrenergic antagonist (beta-blocker) that decreases aqueous humor production, further contributing to reduced intraocular pressure.
Together, these agents provide a complementary effect in managing elevated intraocular pressure.
Indications:
-
Ocular Hypertension: Condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure without any detectable damage to the optic nerve.
-
Open-Angle Glaucoma: A chronic condition where the drainage angle in the eye remains open, but the trabecular meshwork is partially blocked, leading to increased eye pressure.
Dosage and Administration:
-
Recommended Dose: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily, typically in the morning and evening.
-
Administration:
-
Wash your hands thoroughly.
-
Tilt your head back slightly and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
-
Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out one drop.
-
Close your eye and gently press the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 2 minutes to prevent the liquid from draining away.
-
If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes before applying the next medication.
-
Precautions:
-
Pregnancy: Consult your doctor before use; the safety during pregnancy has not been established.
-
Breastfeeding: Not recommended; Brimonidine may pass into breast milk.
-
Children: Not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age.
-
Driving and Operating Machinery: May cause blurred vision or drowsiness; avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
