Description

Cepodem 100mg Tablet is a prescription antibiotic containing cefpodoxime proxetil, part of the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It is effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory Tract Infections:

  • Community-acquired pneumonia

  • Acute bronchitis

  • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis

  • Acute maxillary sinusitis

• Urinary Tract Infections:

  • Uncomplicated cystitis

  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea

• Skin and Soft Tissue Infections

  • Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections

• Ear Infections

  • Acute otitis media

Mechanism of Action: Cefpodoxime proxetil is a prodrug that is converted to its active form in the body. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Cepodem 100mg Tablet is determined by the type and severity of the infection. It should be taken orally with food to enhance absorption. The full course of therapy should be completed as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before finishing the medication.

Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness. Serious allergic reactions are rare but can occur; seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing develop.

Contraindications: Cepodem 100mg Tablet should not be used by individuals with a known allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin. It is not recommended for use in children under 2 months of age. Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
