Description

Clavam Syrup is an oral suspension designed for pediatric use. It combines two active ingredients:

  • Amoxicillin: A broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.

  • Clavulanic Acid: A beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by certain bacterial enzymes, enhancing its effectiveness against resistant bacteria.

Indications:

Clavam Syrup is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in children, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Middle ear infections (otitis media)

  • Sinus infections (sinusitis)

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dosage: The exact dosage is determined by the pediatrician based on the child’s age, weight, and the severity of the infection.

  • Administration:

    • Shake the bottle well before each use.

    • Use the provided measuring device to administer the correct dose.

    • It’s advisable to give the medication with food to reduce potential stomach upset.

    • Complete the full course of treatment, even if the child feels better before finishing the medication, to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Skin rash

Most side effects are mild and resolve on their own. However, if any severe reactions occur, such as persistent diarrhea, allergic reactions, or unusual symptoms, consult a healthcare professional promptly.

Precautions:

  • Inform the doctor if the child has a history of liver disease, kidney problems, or allergies to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics.

  • Use with caution in children with mononucleosis, as they may be more prone to skin rashes when taking amoxicillin.

  • Ensure the child stays hydrated, especially if experiencing diarrhea.
